After a series of fits and starts (some related to Stop Work Orders, some not), the eight-story development at 679 4th Avenue has taken a turn for the strange. A reader sent in this photo with the title “stairway to nowhere.” A look at DOB filings shows its somehow related to “remedial repairs.” Hopefully these repairs will include the rusted balconies. 1. I walk by it every day and, yes, it’s new. There was never a ‘construction elevator’ on this crap job. My guess is it was constructed for the developer to hurl himself off of once he realizes he lost his shirt on this building.

  2. This POS building has been going on for 3 years. Crap, crap, crap. Driven by it for years.

It’s a basic upside down “T” shape, wrapping from 4th Ave to 21st St. which is why it took advantage of the R7A zoning on its sliver on 4th Ave (predating the rezoning in November 2005).

Ugly brick. Rusted balconies, no interiors done. My guess is all the SWOs, issues with the neighbors (so I have been told) and $$.

And now with the silly ladder, lord knows what will happen next.

Mr. B, I’d change the title from “development watch” to “close your eyes.” Frightful.
