Turns out the buzz about some of the investors in Union Hall opening a new venue on 3rd Ave. and 7th St. is spot on. A Union Hall employee confirmed that the rumors were true yesterday. The venue is going to be spread over three levels, and the basement is mostly going to be given over to a bar according to one of the contractors working on the building. Seems like it’ll be another great addition to what’s already happening on 3rd Avenue. Update: Whoops! We were a little off the mark here—per Brooklyn Vegan (who got the update from the owners), the venue’s half a block away, on 7th between 2nd and 3rd. The photo above is the actual space, and it’s only going to be one level. Interestingly, though, the space we originally ID’d (see pic on jump), is also being turned into a club, though we don’t know its provenance.

  1. The picture of the corner building is a landmark of this neighborhood’s artist, pre-yuppie past. (sigh)

The upper floor was known as “The Manor” & was home to many young, and up & coming musicians in the 80s & into the 90s.

Some of its residents went on to play with Ray Charles, Chaka Kahn, The Brecker Brothers, etc., & have recording & producing careers.

The area was desolote, cheap & full of nightly “working girls”. A perfect place for all night practicing & jamming, etc.

Now its set to be the new Williamsburg, filled with little hipsters, who only know 3 chords & get there monnthly stipend from Mummie & Daddie.

    Ah, the new Brooklyn!

  2. I love it, I bought in this neighborhood last year and couldnt be happier!

Dont get me wrong – Im not a slope hater or Carrol Gardens hater becuase I lived in both of these neighborhoods over the past 5 years.

Its nice to have a diverse mix of neighborhoods and amenities all within walking distance though!

  3. only babies with mohawks are allowed in this joint, time to get even hipper, parents, start them young! also baby tribal piercings and baby tattoos may gain admittance. extra credit for the most hard to find baby rock-t’s.
