A new deli opening on 4th Avenue and Bergen Street is aiming to be Brooklyn’s answer to one of the city’s great delis. “We’ll have bagels and coffee, but we’re also going to have things like hot pastrami,” one of the owners of Canteen, which is scheduled to open on Monday, told us. “We’d like to be a Katz’s for Brooklyn.” Although it remains to be seen whether they’ll achieve their lofty goal, the gleaming renovation of the space (see photo on jump) is certainly an improvement on the poky interior of the bodega that preceded.
