StreetLevel: Troubled Smith St. Restaurant Closes
The latest—and extremely short-lived—incarnation of a Carroll Gardens restaurant has closed for good. South American steakhouse Carniceria, which operated out of what Pardon Me For Asking calls one of the first Smith Street locations to be turned into a restaurant, recently shuttered. Owner Marco Rivera previously ran Italian eatery Porchetta in the same spot but reopened it as Carniceria this May, after a well-publicized legal spat with chef Jason Neroni. Rivera is now looking to sell his lease, according to a broker involved in the transaction, who also said the current kitchen and dining room setup means the space will almost certainly be taken by another restaurant.
