At Dumbo Landmarking Hearing, All Signs Point to Yes

The Historic Districts Council blog reports that yesterday’s LPC hearing to landmark 65 buildings in Dumbo went astonishingly well. Jed Walentas spoke in favor of the designation, as did the BID, which requested that the commission allow for a range of ground-floor retail uses. Preservationists, meanwhile, want to ensure that Dumbo’s Belgian block streets are protected and that the LPC helps guide appropriate development in the vacant lots next to the historic district. All in all, the designation appears to be fast-tracked, a decision that’s particularly timely given that the rest of the neighborhood may be upzoned soon.
