The proposals for expanding both the Clinton Hill and Fort Greene Historic Districts have been developed in tandem with lots of interaction between both the Society for Clinton Hill and the Fort Greene Assocation. We’ve featured each plan separately in recent months, but the two groups haven’t opted to put the chocolate in the peanut butter and come up with one map that shows the combined impact on the area of both plans. So we did. The map you see above (which can be clicked on to view a larger version) shows the existing historic districts in yellow and the proposed additions in green. We’ve republished the separate maps from which the information was drawn (and which contain more detailed info) on the jump, so let us know if we’ve missed anything in translation. The two plans really fill in the gaps, no?

  1. “Not that it matters so much, but it is commonly done.”

It does matter. Deception (whether legal or not) is the most powerful tool in business. Without it, commissions would be less (by volume and/or sales price).

  2. How’s that? CH stops at Classon, or do you mean that you see listings that are Bed Stuy listed as Clinton Hill when they are clearly east of Classon. If that’s what you’re saying, I totally agree. Not that it matters so much, but it is commonly done.

  3. Notice how the Historic building “The Griffin” located at Lafayette Ave and S. Oxford seems to be specifically cut out of the current historic district. How is this possible as it is absolutely a historic building?…

  4. 11.12 – The convent (a beautiful building, I agree) is east (I’m pretty sure) of Classon so it is not covered by the Clinton Hill extension proposal.

And you are correct about Wallabout. While technically part of the proposed Wallabout bay historic distric is within the bounds of Clinton Hill, it was determined that there is a greater chance of a Wallabout Baby landmark district if those northern Clinton Hill blocks between Myrtle and Park/Navy yard are included.
