Last week the DOB slapped the easternmost section of the Atlantic Yards site with a stop-work order. Construction at Vanderbilt Avenue and Pacific Street—where Forest City Ratner plans to put up residential buildings—is suspended because contractors didn’t have approved plans or a DOT permit posted. While Forest City’s lack of a paper trail certainly isn’t as frightening as when sections of the Ward’s Bakery building began collapsing this spring, perhaps the hiccup could have been avoided if someone was overseeing Atlantic Yards construction.
