After stalling out for a few months this Spring (there was speculation that it had something to do with the structure being overbuilt), work at 377 Franklin Avenue resumed a few weeks ago and is looking like it’s almost ready for walk-throughs. Even though the 12-unit building looks too bulky to us next to those brick townhouses, we’d rather see something like this (even if it is by Bricolage) than the horrible new Fedders row houses that have been spreading like a virus nearby. Anyone know who will be marketing these units?

  1. Okay, one: the community board, zip code and council district boundaries are all on Classon. This is Bed Stuy.

Two: it is hard for me to see how a bunch of privileged rich folks snapping up the cookies at heavenly crumbs is good for anyone in the neighborhood. It won’t improve life for the people trying to get by around there.

  2. I agree this building does not look too bad in person, and the fact that it is on a corner helps with the issue of context… it would be more jarring in the middle of a row of townhouses. I am not bothered too much by the more modern design of some of the newer condos, as long as they try to stay relatively close to the neighborhood scale. There is a not bad condo development of DeKalb (lofts) with the same flavor, and now that it is occupied, I think it works.
