In Monday’s post about Ovington Avenue, site of the endangered Bay Ridge United Methodist Church, Forgotten NY scratches his virtual head over the house at 457 Ovington

I have been passing 457 Ovington for years, a distinctive blond bricked 3-story mansion with a Spanish-style roof. And it is a complete mystery…no one seems to enter or leave; its old-school wide-slat Venetian blinds are always pulled down, the brownstone gradually chipping, the paint is very gradually peeling away, the iron fence is gradually rusting. It seems to be slowly winding down and fading away. Perched on a hill, it seems as if it was constructed with a view of the Narrows in mind. Nothing ever seems to change here.

He goes on to ask for input from readers about the building’s past or its current owner. Can anyone help him out?

  1. I just spoke to friend who lived on that block for many years (15-20?) up until 4 years ago.
She said rarely sign of life. Once saw older woman shoveling snow – offered to help but woman refused offer.

  2. i used to live down the block, next to the church that sold for $12MM..i believe an asian couple live here…and it’s set up as multi-family. we actually went inside one time b/c their cat ran out and we rang the bell…it’s great space, but a mess.
