Domino Sugar Factory To Be Considered by LPC

Tomorrow morning, the Landmarks Preservation Commission will decide whether to put the most historic portion of the Domino Sugar Factory on its calendar. Anyone know how Isaac (Mr. Katan, if you’re nasty) is playing his cards right now? Is he reworking the scheme to include the Filter House, Pan House and Finishing House? If not, why hasn’t he already demolished the historic portions? It seems like the odds are pretty good that, if calendared, these three portions will ultimately be designated, no? (At the very least, once something’s been calendared, there’s a period during which no alterations are allowed.) It’s not like this is a hardship case either: If done right, condos carved out of this old building should sell at a premium to newly-built apartments, especially given the supply of new stuff that’s going to be coming on line in the next few years. Anyone got the inside dope?
