In its annual Eat Out awards issue (whose name provokes giggles in adolescents and adolescents-at-heart citywide), Time Out asks readers to nominate their five fave restaurants in two dozen categories, then narrow them down to one winner for each. Plenty of Brooklyn spots were up for awards, including Porchetta (ironically, in the “new chef of the year” category), 67 Burger (for best new burger joint), and Union Hall (for new bar of the year); but only a few of our borough’s nominees actually took home titles. The big readers’ choice winner was The Good Fork in Red Hook, which snagged both “best new Brooklyn restaurant” and “best new neighborhood spot.” In the critics’ picks section, though, there was a lot more love for east-of-the-East-River destinations: The Farm on Adderley, Porchetta, and Petite Crevette, among others, got honors, and Union Hall and The Smoke Joint were given props for being the best newcomers in their respective fields (rec-room-style bars and proper pit-smoked barbecue joints).
