Best Bowl of Soup in the Borough

Rainy days are always good soup weather, and the tasty crab bisque we sampled at My Moon’s station at yesterday’s Dine-In Brooklyn launch got us thinking — what are some of the best bowls of soup Brooklyn has to offer? We’re big fans of the pappa pomodoro (Tuscan tomato and bread soup) at Panino’teca on Smith Street. And last week, we had a supremely delicious bowl of rich and smoky seafood chowder at Saul. But we’ve got a friend who claims that the best soup in Brooklyn can only be found inside a “big wooden porch with windows on 4th Avenue between 10th and 11th.” Their soup menu varies from day to day, they don’t have a phone, and apparently, they don’t stick to a schedule — but if you happen to get there on a day they’re serving their chicken mole soup, you’re in luck. Our buddy says it’s the best soup he’s ever had. Anybody else second that opinion? And are there any other highly recommended bowls in the borough?
