The company that owns the midtown Manhattan chain called Dishes (and the federal trademark rights to the word “Dishes”) has forced Park Slope’s Little Dishes to change their name to Little D Eatery. “As a new small business, we did not have the resources to fight to keep the ‘Dishes’ part of our name, and we have agreed to make a change,” write owners Mira Friedlaender and Colin Wright. The menu and the management of their small plates spot hasn’t changed. This legal battle seems kind of strange to us, being that the salads and sandwiches at Dishes don’t hold a candle to the made-with-love meze-inspired fare at Little D — it seems that the Dishes chain could only profit from any link to this Park Slope spot. But now, at least no one will mistake the small and homey Little D for an overpriced and underwhelming lunch counter.
