Gowanus Holiday Inn Opens Without Incident

Except for a few computer problems and some grumbling by neighbors, the opening of the new 115-room Holiday Inn in Gowanus a week ago appears to have gone off without a hitch. Turns out there are a lot of people who are desperate for their relatives not to sleep on the pull-out couches of their cramped Park Slope walk-ups. The hotel is already soaking up latent demand from wedding parties: 40 or so have already blocked out rooms for the fall. And who can blame ‘em. At $149 a night, the price is right. The only negative so far appears to be a strain on nearby parking spaces. That, and apparently the coffee tastes like shit.
