Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Pataki ceremoniously announced the transfer of piers 1, 2, 3 and part of 5 from the Port Authority to Brooklyn Bridge Park yesterday. “Brooklyn Bridge Park will be the lynchpin of an exciting new harbor district, a re-imagined Governors Island and the new East River Esplanade in Lower Manhattan. They will join Brooklyn Bridge Park as magnates drawing New Yorkers and visitors from around the world,” said the mayor. Supposedly the park will be the first new major park since Prospect Park was built 135 years ago.
