Brooklyn Bridge Park Developer Jumping the Gun?
Developer Robert Levine is charging full speed ahead with plans to build the first wave of luxury condos for Brooklyn Bridge Park–even though opponents say he’s jumping the gun. Levine already has two big signs up on the building trumpeting his plans, which include an indoor driving range and private rooftop cabanas in addition to the 450 condominium apartments he says will be ready in about a year. Park planners say the deal is still under negotiation and the Brooklyn Bridge Defense Fund is gearing up to file a lawsuit in the coming months. “We’re pursuing every legal means to prevent private housing in the park,” says Defense Fund President Judi Francis. Regardless of how you feel about them, don’t you think it’s looking like condos are an inevitable part of this plan at this point?
