AM New York: A Closer Look at Windsor Terrace
AM New York takes a closer look at Windsor Terrace and sees a neighborhood that was once the working class cousin of Park Slope, populated by policemen, firemen and school teachers and happy not to have the upper-middle class trappings of next-door Park Slope.
Instead of trendy restaurants, there is an old-fashioned Irish bar, and instead of boutiques sellling upscale baby clothes, you’ll find a Hallmark card store. You’ll also find streets that have a small-town feel, with miniature porches, and people who sit on the stoops, passing the time of day with their neighbors while the local kids toss a football in the street. Just how much more Brooklyn can a neighborhood get?
Now though, with prices for houses exceeding $1 million, the gentrifiers are moving in. Oh no! Actually, our experience is that the vibe is still very low key, with very few commercial signs of the influx of wealthier inhabitants.
