Inspired by the responses to our post “Are All New Developments Ugly?”, Curbed ventured into the wilds of Brooklyn to snap this photo of buzzed-about 55 Berry Street sans scaffolding.

  1. i love this building , it has been here in williamsbourg for a long time…so its not a new ugly development as you say it is actually one of the new buildings that keeps a touch of the industrial old williamsbourg..I love it, it is solid industrial but also new renovated and well renovated.

i was reading curbed and I had enough with people who moved in in williuamsbourg few years ago and now they feel like they own the plACE AND CRITICIZE OTHER PEOPLE WHO MOVE IN JUST FEW YEARS LATER.

IF you were not born in williamsbourg , what right do you have to criticize others to move in , develop new buildings, renovate others, make the neighbourhood cleaner, safer and more exciting too…

  2. I’ve checked out 6 of the nearly completed units and found the finish/details to be impressive. Much higher quality than apts&lofts “20 Broadway” and Developers Group “McCarren”. Nice stone bathrooms and good kitchen layout/fixtures. The building is solid, I had a studio space in there prior to conversion. Originally the ground floor was going to be commercial, but now it’s being made into 8 residential duplexes. There will be 44 condos and no rentals as of now. One nice touch: a 2600 sq. ft. common garden on the 2nd floor annex space.

  3. I have a feeling 55 Berry is not going to finish very well. I think that the quality of construction will be off. I would buy raw space and do it myself. The loft building across the street is for sale, by the way.

  4. The pic is a few weeks old, I went by berry st last weekend and the building was much more advanced. Does anyone know when the first tenants will move in, and whether it’s all condos or if rentals will be available?
