Come check in with the latest submission to the My Brownstone gallery. The owner of this 1905 Renaissance Revival house in Prospect Lefferts had plenty of dirty work to do even though he purchased the place from a flipper. Check it out and then get to work on creating an homage to your own place!

  1. Tom, you’re doing great stuff!

We too found scraps of old newspapers…dated 1897! Alas, they were so fragile, moving them at all made them crumble. It was impossible to keep more than a square inch intact that showed the date.

  2. Re: the ugly electric meters, for which you apologise, although Con Edison likes them, you do not have to accept them IF you live in an historic district. Con Ed does not have a listing for the Prospect Lefferts Gardens Historic District (Which, after all was ONLY established a mere 26 years ago–I’m sure their information on other historic districts is equally up-to-date) However, they will not insist on one of these ugly outside meters if you can provide a letter from the LPC stating that the building on your specific bloc and lot is in a NYC Historic District.Such a letter can be obtained from Doris Hernandez, Public information Officer at the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Her contact info is:

This information BTW is from the Dec.2004 issue of the Lefferts Manor Echo
