Sol Lewitt to Design Sound Barrier in The Heights?
Brooklyn Heights resident and Brownstoner regular Whitbo went to the Brookyln Bridge Park “Saturday Storefront” at St. Ann’s Warehouse in DUMBO this weekend and reported back to us. “All in all, especially considering the acrimony that has emerged between the planners and the community, everyone was well behaved,” he notes. One part of the meeting focused on ideas to block the noise from the BQE which can reach 70 decibels on Furman Street. Other than building houses along the stretch of road, the possibility of creating a sound barrier wall to be designed by artist Sol Lewitt was raised. Apparently Lewitt has done some great work of this type in other cities. Remarks Whitbo, “Just think of a beautiful ten block long sculptural creation all along the east side of the park – that’s cuts the noise to boot!”
