Top Floor Bath - Tile Floor Prep

After the re-rough was completed, prepping the floor for the new tile was a bit tricky, but reinforced the notion that the work was a good idea. For one, the area around the toilet had apparently been thin crappy tiles resting on a bed of nothing. To be fair, there was a cool old piece of marble (marble!) at one part under the toilet that was doing all the support work, the rest was being held up by luck. Scraping away the layer of el-cheapo tile, we found cool little green tiles underneath with a patch of cement floor where they no longer existed. We thought about keeping the floor like this as a crazy patchwork for about 5 minutes. Then we went back to plan A. But it was nice to see what the floor had originally been like, at least after whatever renovation had resulted in the green tiles on the walls (and floors.)

After some filling in the hole in the floor by the toilet with plywood and backerboard, I used some thinset to even things out. I wasn't crazy about the idea of smashing up the floor, for fear of whatever else we might find, so we decided to tile over the old green tile and cement once again. The last pic shows the floor ready for the new tile.

Mrs. Limestone,

It's a sickness we have, a sickness. I hope you haven't discovered houseblogs.net yet (oops).

Your place and Bed Stuy reno are both coming along nicely.
