People Get Ready: Painting Party

G and her friends paint differently than me and my friends. George comes over, or EPH2000 comes over, we get the sweepy-paint brush out and get down to business. Sure, there's music playing, but we don't stop until there is at least one full coat on.
G has her friends over and what do they do - they play Madonna, they dance, they sing, they break for lunch, then they break out the whiskey! What is this? You call this painting? This is a slumber party! Painting is not a slumber party!
But they did get the first coat of primer up. So, fine.

You have really nice friends. Not only because they do this for you but because the whiskey didn't result in holes in the wall or passed out pals under ladders.
I think my friends would probably cause more damage than they made up for in free painting labor :)
What color are you painting in here?

Still trying to figure that out, actually. G is liking a sort of rust or cinammon red color, but we are thinking it will be too strong to do on all four walls. We are thinking of actually doing the strong color move on the fireplace wall, where we still have some original detail, and the rest of the walls would be a cream color. we would also need a color for the mouldings. The jury is still out . . .

Hey there.. Nice job guys! my house over in Bushwick is in a similar boat.. We are doing our own painting too and we've decided that our "splurge" for doing the work ourselves is that we are using FreshAir paint.. It is amazing.. you can paint with the windows closed in the dead of winter without the slightest hint of smell or headache. So far we've done a the living room and its trim. Very happy with it. Good luck with your projects and thanks for sharing.

We will need to do our own painting as well. We are terrified about painting stairwell wall on the top floor--its like 20 feet tall. How are you guys going to handle that area? We are trying to avoid paying someone else to paint, but this might be the only area that we won't be able to reach.....Any advice would be great.

Hi. I've been enjoying your blog since you started. And nice to see your progress. I'm also renovating my brownstone (at very slow speed) with limited budget. Have you checked Wary Mayers? The are my inspiration. http://www.warymeyers.com/interiordesign.html
Good luck!
