Catching Up

intro%20work.jpg

So we’ve been doing quiet work on the house for the past couple of months. Admittedly, we are still in the bathroom. We did finally finish tiling the walls, the shower and all the niches. And we grouted. And we sealed.

In the meantime, we’ve done some spackling in conjunction with some taping, and even went out and bought some paint (ok, primer) thinking we could put some on the walls. But we’re not quite there yet.

Why? I don’t know why. I guess because we both have demanding jobs which really picked up this summer, sometimes demanding that we work at the office on weekends instead of on our house. I did get to travel to Amsterdam a couple of times this summer and found the houses there to be amazingly beautiful and incredibly inspiring. Maybe too beautiful. Because for me, the Brooklyn rowhouse was always this ideal for living. But seeing houses in Amsterdam from 1648 – with impressively large windows to boot - along these old canals on quiet cobblestone streets – all lined with bike paths - it’s made me rethink what the ideal home is. I’m going to put a post together on some of the amazing houses I saw there.

Anyway, back in Bed Stuy, we’ve redoubled our efforts and are getting the bathroom ready to paint because it’s the key piece to the whole puzzle that is our house. Once the bathroom is done we get the plumbers back to hook up the fixtures in there, take care of some last pipe issues to the top floor bathroom, and then we can close up the rest of the open walls in the house. And then finish said walls, and then paint them too, and then buy a television and take it easy like every other normal person seems to do.

I’m going to post some catch-up pictures of the bathroom with more tiling shots, some spackling shots from the lower level, and some other randomness. Enjoy!
