Garden: Growing With Some Help From Maman

garden%20de%20maman_bstoner.jpg

While things have been progressing (albeit slowly) inside the house, the garden has been making leaps and bounds outside. Thanks to the help of G's mom, Madame R, a gardener de rigueur in town from Brussels, we have the beginnings of a fantastic yard.

We borrowed our friend's car and visited the Brooklyn Terminal Market a few weekends ago, and picked up rhododendrons, hydrangeas, what they called a pumpkin plant, some crabgrass, a couple rosebushes, a small Japanese maple plant. All the while Madame R has been planting and growing new plants from seed as well.

The grass, or "pelouse" en francais, has come in nicely, and the seed we put down in the front garden has also sprouted and is starting to take hold and fill out. Having this nature aspect as counterpoint to the construction aspect indoors is good for the health I think.

Congratulations! The garden is looking great! (I am jealous, as mine more resembles a mosquito infested jungle right now, and I don't think we will be able to tackle it until next year). Keep up the good work - I am living vicariously through your reno at the moment, waiting for permits, when I can pick up a sledgehammer, and start wreaking havoc on my own house...
