Out of the Lower Level

Demo is pretty much wrapped up on the lower level. Next is to scrape down what's left of the plaster ceiling in the basement and remove the lathe, and to hit the parlor floor. In the basement, we want everything open for easy access to plumbing and electrical lines. The plumbing down there is really a maze of pipes. Supply pipes go every which way, and baseboard heating is hung halfway up the wall in the back of the house, ostensibly to keep the pipes from freezing in the winter.

On the parlor, we are trying to save what we can of the plaster walls, though it's looking like in the front room, all we can save is the plaster along the parti wall. The back rooms of the parlor look like the walls are salvageable. Shown are some pics the parlor plaster. The vertical striping you can see are from the studs that had been nailed directly into the plaster in order to hang the old paneling. This killed a lot of the plaster, but we think that a lot of the damage is older than that, and probably due to water and moisture.
