Forgot to Mention: So Long, Fridge!

IMG_7006.jpg

How we could have forgotten to mention this, I'm not sure. The old maggot-infested fridge is finally out!

We called 311, made an appointment to have the chemicals removed from the fridge, and lugged it out to the curb. (After removing the doors - a safety requirement, however we felt bad about fumigating the entire block by doing so. This fridge hadn't been opened since we first cleaned it out. So when we finally cracked the doors, the odor came right out, activating memories of our first weekend in the house, with all the initial nastiness we had to deal with. Disgusting, but in a way, it was a reminder of how far we've come.)

Strangely enough, coming back home at the end of the day, we couldn't wait to get to our block to see if the city had actually come through and removed the chemicals and slapped the sticker on the fridge confirming it. But the fridge was gone. Doors and all. No sticker, no fridge, no nothing. Our neighbor said an area "recycler" came by in the morning, inquired about whether we were tossing the fridge, and took it for himself, possibly to refurbish it. It's true that the fridge still works, and it was a large one. But it was laden with too much psychological baggage for us. That image of the maggots and the rotting food inside was forever burned in our minds. The next person to own it won't have to know about it.

Surprising, but fine by us. It's gone!

Even with the fridge on the sidewalk your block looks very pretty; I just finished demo on my brownstone and now await permits for the electric and plumbing;

How are you handling the anxiety? I find I can't sleep at night wondering if I should separate the heat; get central air; build a deck; or just slap up some walss and start living

Ya jerks! If I had known you had maggots in that fridge, I would'a made ya's pay me to take it away!

Just kidding. I don't know anything about your place, Brooklyn or that fridge. I live outside of DC. But, I couldn't help myself. Sorry.
