And Basement Too

G hard at work pulling down bad plaster from the ceiling. We want everything free and clear down here for easy access for plumbing, electric, badass fixtures, etc. (Joking about the fixtures of course - we're going to re-use the flourescent fixtures from our Parlor Level drop ceiling to bring more light to the basement. So there is at least one positive to the old drop ceilings.)

I guess they've done the job for many years, but the brick support piers look a little on the small side. Any plans to re-inforce or replace?

We're going to reinforce them. They've spawled a lot due to moisture - the basement seems to be always damp. A contractor friend of ours recommended a sort of steel bracing to basically hug the columns and hold them together.

You may want to add a few jacks and cement them in place if your brick support piers are weak.
