From the Forum: Can Work on a House Within a Historic District Be Done Without a Permit?
An architect has a client considering doing work to the front porch of a home within a historic district and is curious about the risks of doing that work without Landmarks approval.

An architect has a client considering doing work on the front porch of a home within a historic district and is curious about the risks of doing that work without Landmarks approval. The decking and railings need to be completely replaced. Does this need to go through the Landmarks Preservation Commission’s approval process? If so, would doing the work on weekends avoid detection that the work is being done without approval?
