A homeowner wants to replace a cracked support beam in their townhouse and is concerned about causing more damage. Contractors suggested jacking up the joists and replacing the beam. The homeowner is worried this method could cause the home’s plaster walls to crack. They are not planning on doing additional renovation and want to preserve most of the historic walls and moldings. How long should a process like this take and what damage might occur?
