Brownstoner reader cityrat was in the process of filing an Alt-2 permit for their two-family house in Clinton Hill. But the Department of Buildings is claiming it’s only a one-family, and therefore in need of an Alt-1 permit — and all the expensive alteration requirements that come with it — to change it to a two-family.

Have you been in a similar situation, as at least one commenter has? Is the DOB making a mistake here?
