From the Forum: Should the Internal Staircase to a Garden Apartment Be Removed or Left in Place?
A homebuyer is thinking of turning the garden level into a single rental unit and is wondering about maintaining access to the space.
A home buyer is contemplating a garden level apartment renovation and is looking for advice. The apartment is currently duplexed with the floor above but they are planning to make it a one-floor rental unit.
Should they leave the internal stairs in place and create a smaller apartment or should they remove the stairs and have a larger rental unit? They would like to continue to have access to the lower level from their apartment above but are concerned that the smaller space may not be appealing to renters.
Please chime in with your advice.
