A reader completed a gut renovation on a three-family brownstone but ran into plumbing issues, including an annoying, inconsistent banging in the pipes. A number of possibilities have been eliminated as the cause.

To ensure that it wasn’t a water hammer, a banging caused by water pressure changes, they installed water hammer arresters at every fixture. They’ve even cut open walls to check that pipes were secure and dropped cameras down pipes to make sure there weren’t any obstructions. The banging is loud enough that it is waking up the homeowners, making finding a solution necessary to their sanity.

Please chime in with any advice.
