“Million Dollar Listing” star and Nest Seekers broker Ryan Serhant and Executive Vice President of Development at Forest City Ratner Companies Susi Yu spoke about a changing Brooklyn, 550 Vanderbilt, and how to create a brand at last week’s Brownstoner Open Houses networking event.

“The majority of our volume now is in Brooklyn,” said Serhant, whose team now includes 15 people in its Bed Stuy office. “This is where everyone wants to live.”

“It’s a very different world today” in Brooklyn compared to a decade ago, said Yu. “You’ve got institutional money coming into this market. What’s important for Brooklyn is that we don’t lose our authenticity and core values that make Brooklyn so great.”

The soirée, the fourth in the free Brooklyn real estate networking series, was hosted by Nest Seekers and 550 Vanderbilt and sponsored by Sixpoint Brewery, City Chemist, Kendra Scott, Narrows Insurance and Reyka Vodka.

To brokers just starting out, Serhant recommends they specialize and become known for something. “A lot of brokers do too many things in too many places,” he said. “Figure out your niche. Push that out consistently with mailers and on social media.”
